Excavation of the Piltdown man

The "Piltdown Man" is a famous hoax perpetrated using fragments of a skull and jawbone taken from a gravel pit at Piltdown, a village near Uckfield, East Sussex, England in 1912. The Piltdown Man was exposed as a forgery in 1953 when it was discovered that the find consisted of the lower jawbone of an orangutan that had been deliberately combined with the skull of a fully developed, modern man. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Piltdownexcavation.jpg
